Clan MacDonald Flora

Flora MacDonald (Gaelic: Fionnghal nic Dhòmhnaill); (1722 – 5 March 1790) was a member of the Macdonalds of Sleat, now remembered for helping Charles Edward Stuart evade government troops after the Battle of Culloden in April 1746. The Sleat Macdonalds supported the British government during the 1745 Rising and Flora later claimed to have assisted Charles out of sympathy for his situation. After his escape to France, she was arrested and sent to London where it was recorded 'all admired the dauntless part she had acted, and she had the honor of a visit from Frederick, Prince of Wales.
