"A fierce sea collides with the jagged cliffs. Ancient mist shrouds the fertile mountains. This is the landscape of Scotland, the land that somehow represents my family legacy.

It is true I am a descendent of the MacDonald Highland Clan of Scotland. We were even chieftains in the days long past.

But the days are long past, so why are so many family discussions riddled with talk of Scotland? We do have other origins as well; why not speak more of the Normans, the English or even the Cherokee? Certainly they too are romantic.

But they do not explain us.

We are the intense and stubborn sea. We are the sharp cliffs who make friends and foes wary. We are the constant mountains, built on a sure foundation and forever guarding. And still we are plagued with that ancient mist of pride."
